Michael Bolien (born September 18, 1960 in Berlin ) is a German moderator, author and engineer.

He grew up in simple circumstances in Berlin-Neukölln. From an early age he had two career aspirations, broadcaster and engineer. Both should come true for him. Since 1985 Michael Bolien has been engaged as a presenter in the German radio landscape at various private radio stations. In March 1998 he switched from “private” to the public service city radio 88acht at the former broadcaster Free Berlin (SFB) in Berlin. At first he moderated various magazine programs here . In order to find time for the studies he had begun, he then switched to music broadcasts .

He was mainly responsible for the program Deutsches Gold , which for a long time ran once a week on 88acht's program. This program achieved a certain cult status in the Berlin / Brandenburg region. Here music from the 1960s to 1980s was played from real records that otherwise could not be heard. With the relaunch of the city radio 88acht to radioBERLIN 88.8 , the broadcast was also discontinued.

Michael Bolien is one of the last of the “old radio school”, he represented values in a “format radio landscape” that no longer exist in this form, such as free moderation, direct addressing of listeners, inclusion of listeners in the program and individual music selection.

For him, radio was an entertainment medium; he had learned it from scratch since 1985 and lived that way until the temporary end of his radio career in August 2005. Thousands of Berlin and Brandenburg listeners owe him positive experiences with the radio when they noticed that he was addressing them personally and that radio can be more than just radio .

Michael Bolien was instrumental in the success of the SFB's 88acht city radio, then RBB.

Since the end of 2011 Michael Bolien has been on the air again at the Berlin radio station Radio B2 .

In January 2001 he was able to successfully complete his studies at the TU Berlin as a graduate engineer in electrical engineering. In addition to his work on the radio, Michael Bolien works as a software developer and independent energy manager.
