Life

Michael Bolle passed his Abitur in 1961 at the Schiller-Gymnasium in Berlin. He completed his subsequent studies at the Free University of Berlin in 1966 with a degree in economics and received his doctorate there in 1969. From 1971 to 1972, Bolle was an assistant professor at the Free University of Berlin . Between 1972 and 1974 he was Professor of Macroeconomics and Theory of Economic Policy at the Business School of Economics in Berlin. This was followed by teaching activities at Harvard University (1977–1978) and at the University of Wisconsin – Madison (1980). In 1983 Bolle was a visiting scholar at the University of Texas . He then worked as a Research Associate at the University of California at Berkeley between 1987 and 1988 . Bolle has headed the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence for European Integration since 1996. From 1997 to 1998, Bolle was also a John F. Kennedy Fellow Visiting Scholar Professor at Harvard University. In 2001 he worked at the Center for European Studies there.

research

While Michael Bolle's research at the beginning of his university career was particularly dedicated to the study of economic macro systems , his later research is in the field of political economy and European integration research. His main research interests include European monetary policy, the eastward expansion of the European Union, the European financial crisis and the stability of the European Union's negotiation system. In addition, Bolle deals with the socio-economic conditions of political system stability and regime change.

Bolle's earlier research dealt with economic cybernetics, imbalanced economic systems, and labor market policy. As early as the early 1970s, Bolle was engaged in computer simulations of economic systems. His doctoral thesis from 1969 "Short and long-term analysis of imbalanced supply and demand systems" examined economic non-linearity and is thus thematically to be regarded as a pioneer of the later popular applications of chaos theory in economics.
