Michael Sydney Cedric Brudenell-Bruce, 8th Marquess of Ailesbury (born March 31, 1926 ), until 1961 under the courtesy title Viscount Savernake and from 1961 to 1974 as Earl Bruce , is a British peer and politician .

life and career

Brudenell-Bruce was born on March 31, 1926 to Cedric Brudenell-Bruce, 7th Marquess of Ailesbury , and Joan Houlton Salter.

He attended Eton College and later served in the Royal Horse Guards . There he was Lieutenant and later Captain Honorary ( Honorary Captain ).

In 1954 he became a member of the London Stock Exchange . Brudenell-Bruce is currently not a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association .

Membership in the House of Lords

After his father's death in 1974, he inherited the title of Marquess of Ailesbury and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . There he sat as a crossbencher . He gave his inaugural address on November 21, 1979.

In the 1980s he spoke on the subjects of pensions, the British base in Gibraltar , road transport and the British embassy in Kabul . He came up in the 1990s on Salman Rushdie Safety , Age Hereditary and Life Peers, and Alzheimer's . The last time he spoke up was on November 4, 1999.

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He did not run for one of the remaining seats. He is not on the Register of Hereditary Peers .

family

Brudenell-Bruce was married three times. On March 17, 1952, he married Edwina Sylvia de Winton-Wills, daughter of Lt.-Col. Sir Ernest Edward de Winton-Wills, 4th Baronet Wills of Hazelwood , and Sylvia Margaret Ogden. They divorced in 1961. Together they have three children, David Brudenell-Bruce, Earl of Cardigan (* 1952), Lady Sylvia Davina Brudenell-Bruce (* 1954) who married Peter M. Gould in 1987, and Lady Carina Doune Brudenell-Bruce (* 1956), who married Anthony Le Brun on June 26, 1982.

His second marriage was on July 10, 1963 with Juliet Adrienne Lethbridge Kingsford, daughter of Edward Hilary Lethbridge Kingsford. The couple divorced in 1974. They have two children together, Lady Louisa Brudenell-Bruce (* 1964) and Lady Kathryn Juliet Brudenell-Bruce (* 1965).

On September 18, 1974, he married Caroline Elizabeth Wethered, daughter of Commander Owen Francis MacTier Wethered. They divorced in 1992.

The Heir Apparent to his titles is his eldest son.
