Michael Falzon (politician, 1945)

Michael Falzon (born August 17, 1945 in Gżira ) is a former Maltese politician of the Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) who was a member of the House of Representatives from 1976 to 1996 and Minister for Infrastructure Development in the first and second cabinet of Fenech Adami from 1987 to 1992 . In the third cabinet, Fenech Adami , he was then Minister for the Environment between 1992 and 1994 and then Minister for Education and Human Resources from 1994 to 1996.

Life

After attending school, Falzon, son of Francis Falzon and Esther Cauchi, began studying architecture at the Faculty of Architecture & Civil Engineering at the University of Malta , graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Architecture . He then began his professional activity as an architect and between 1975 and 1985 was co-owner and director of an architecture and civil engineering consultancy. At this time he also began his political career in the Partit Nazzjonalista and was general secretary of the youth association in 1974 and information secretary of the party in 1976.

He was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in the elections on September 17 and 18, 1976 and was a member of the House of Representatives as a representative of the 10th electoral district from the fourth to the end of the seventh electoral term on September 23, 1996.

After the victory of the Partit Nazzjonalista in the House of Representatives elections on May 9, 1987, Bonnici was appointed Minister for Infrastructure Development in his first cabinet by Prime Minister Edward Fenech Adami on May 12, 1987 . From May 3, 1990 to February 27, 1992, he also held this ministerial office in the second Fenech Adami cabinet . In the third cabinet of Fenech Adami , he took over the post of environment minister from February 27, 1992 to April 4, 1994. After Ugo Mifsud Bonniċi was elected President of Malta on April 4, 1994 , he took over the post of Minister for Education and Human Resources from the latter and held this until the end of Fenech Adami's term on October 28, 1996. His own successor as Environment Minister was then the previous Minister for Transport and Telecommunications Francis Zammit Dimech . In 1999 he became chairman of the Water Services Corporation .

In February 2015, he finally withdrew from party politics and resigned from his position as advisor to the Oil Procurement Committee after allegations of a bank account at HSBC in Geneva , which he did during his tenure as minister had kept silent.

His son David Falzon emerged from his marriage to Mary Anne Aquilina on April 5, 1970.
