Michael Flitner
Michael Flitner (* 1960 in Tübingen ) is Professor of Geography at the University of Bremen . He is the spokesman for the artec research center for sustainability.
biography
education and profession
Flitner studied geography, biology and educational science at the University of Hamburg and graduated in 1987 with the state examination. He completed additional training in development research at the Center International pour la Recherche Agricole orientée vers le développement (ICRA) in Montpellier (diploma, 1993). In 1994 the doctorate to Dr. rer. nat. From 1995 to 2006 he worked on a post-doctoral grant from the DFG , as an assistant at the Institute for Forest Economics with Gerhard Oesten and as a research assistant at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . Flitner completed his habilitation in Freiburg in 2004 in geography in the field of environmental justice on the subject of noise at the border. Aircraft noise and environmental justice using the example of the multinational Basel-Mulhouse airport and received the Kapp Research Prize for Ecological Economy .
He was a guest resident a. a. in Berlin at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and at UC Berkeley in the field of Environmental Science Policy and Management . He worked as a reviewer for the International Foundation for Science , the EU Framework Programs , WWF International , the FAO and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
research
Flitner deals with questions of social-scientific environmental research , environmental policy , nature conservation policy in various international and regional contexts. a. in cooperation with the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT Bremen) and the Bremen NatureCultures Lab. He researches the lines of conflict between environmental protection and nature conservation and social majority opinions, environmental justice and civil society engagement , questions of climate change and historical and cultural-scientific perspectives of political ecology .
Teaching
Flitner has a professorship with the denomination of sustainable regional development in globalization . He teaches the BA Geography , MA Urban and Regional Development and M.Sc. Environmental History of the Geographic Institute of the University of Bremen. He is also involved in the GLOMAR and Intercoast graduate programs.
