Volker Heins
Volker Heins (* 1957 in Braunschweig ) is a German political scientist. He is a permanent fellow at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen (KWI) and a member of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen . He is also a senior researcher and member of the board at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Center for Global Cooperation Research in Duisburg .
biography
Heins studied social sciences, philosophy and Italian philology in Bonn , Florence and Frankfurt am Main . In 1988 he received his PhD with a dissertation on the legitimation problem of political rule. phil. PhD. He then published an introduction to Max Weber .
Until 1993, Heins was a research associate at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Frankfurt University. In 1995 he spent a year as a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Chandigarh , India . From 1998 to 2012 he worked at the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research (IfS). In 2001 Heins received his habilitation at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .
From 2005 to 2010 he was a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at McGill University , Montreal . He was also a visiting scholar at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard University , at the European Forum at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Center for Cultural Sociology at Yale University .
Heins has been head of the InterKultur department at the KWI in Essen since 2012 . In addition, he has been an adjunct professor of political science at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2017 .
Volker Heins is a member of the Council for Migration and a founding member of the Academy in Exile.
