Michael Franks (athlete)
Michael Franks (born September 23, 1963 ) is a retired American sprinter .
In his specialty, the 400-meter run , he won silver at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 .
In 1985 he won the World Cup in Athletics .
In 1987 he won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Indianapolis and gold at the Universiade .
Michael Franks started Carbondale while he was in college at Southern Illinois University .
