Michael Fuchs (philosopher)

Michael Fuchs (* 1962 in Duisburg ) is a German philosopher .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1982 at the Max-Ernst-Gymnasium Brühl , he studied philosophy, Catholic theology , German and educational sciences in Bonn , Toulouse and Cologne from 1982 to 1990 . From 1988 to 1993 he was a tutor, research assistant and employee at the Philosophical Department of the University of Bonn . In 1994 he became a managing research assistant at the Institute for Science and Ethics at the University of Bonn. From 1997 to 2015 he was managing director of the Institute for Science and Ethics. From 2000 to 2012 he represented the IWE on the Board of Directors of the European Association of Centers of Medical Ethics (EACME). From 2000 to 2013 he was project leader of various studies in the field of bioethics and research ethics for the DFG , BMBF and the EU Commission . In 2001 he was an expert for the German Bundestag on the subject of moral dissent in bioethics . After completing his habilitation in 2013 for philosophy at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Bonn, he has been a cooperating expert for the Council of Europe on ethical issues in emerging technologies since 2013 . Since October 2015 he has been teaching as a university professor for practical philosophy / ethics at the KU Linz .

His main research interests are general ethics, scientific ethics, bio- and medical ethics, philosophy of science, ontology, philosophy of language and philosophy of the Latin Middle Ages.
