Thomas Heinemann (medical ethicist)
Thomas Heinemann (* 1958 ) is a German medical ethicist and philosopher . From 2012 to 2016 Heinemann was a member of the German Ethics Council .
Professional background
After studying human medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , which he began in 1979 and completed with a doctorate in 1986, Heinemann worked from 1985 to 1998 as a research assistant at the Medical Clinic (general internal medicine ) of the University of Bonn. At the same time, he began studying philosophy at the University of Bonn in 1985 , which he also completed with a doctorate in 2005.
In addition to his recognition as a doctor for internal medicine in 1991 and 1998 for gastroenterology , Heinemann also received recognition as a doctor for biochemistry in 2001 .
From 1992 to 1994 Heinemann did a research stay at the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics and Metabolism at Rockefeller University in New York . After a further research stay from 1997 to 1998 at the Kekulé Institute for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Bonn, he received his habilitation in the field of internal medicine in 1999 . In 2006 Heinemann was appointed adjunct professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn for the field of internal medicine. In the following year, this subject area was expanded to include "Internal Medicine and Biomedical Ethics".
In addition, Thomas Heinemann worked from 1999 to 2010 as a research assistant at the Institute for Science and Ethics at the Philosophical Seminar of the University of Bonn under the direction of Ludger Honnefelder , who also supervised his dissertation entitled "Cloning in Humans".
In 2011 Heinemann was appointed to the W3 chair for ethics, theory and history of medicine at the Philosophical-Theological University of Vallendar .
Other activities
From 1987 to 1999 Thomas Heinemann was a member of the editorial team of the Zeitschrift für medical Ethik . From 2001 to 2006 he was a member of the ethics working group of the priority program Embryonic and Tissue-Specific Stem Cells - Regenerative Cell Systems and Tissue Replacement of the German Research Foundation .
Thomas Heinemann has been chairman of the ethics committee of Cusanus trägergesellschaft trier mbH since 2007 . He has also been chairman of the ethics advisory board of Malteser Deutschland gGmbH since 2009 .
In April 2012 he was appointed to the German Ethics Council at the suggestion of the Federal Government .
