Michael Geffken

Michael Geffken (born February 24, 1950 in Bremen ) is a German journalist. He is director and managing director of the Leipzig School of Media , which is supported by the Media Foundation of the Sparkasse Leipzig. He is responsible for a large number of certificate courses and seminars.

Life

Geffken studied German language and literature and sport in Münster and Hamburg and graduated with the second state examination for teaching at grammar schools. After graduating, he decided to take up journalism and volunteered for the Schaumburger Zeitung newspaper in Rinteln .

Geffken was the Munich correspondent for Wirtschaftswoche , five years editor-in-chief of the communications trade journal Werben & Sell , until 2010 editor-in-chief of Print & more, the magazine of the VDZ Association of German Magazine Publishers , where he also managed the association's training for journalists. He is the author of numerous specialist books and articles on topics from journalism, communication and marketing and editor of the two books The Large Handbook of Advertising and the Public Affairs Lexicon .

Geffken is a member of various juries, such as the GWA Junior Agency Day or the Fox Finance Awards. In 2004, together with Marco Althaus and Sven Raweeiner, he founded the German Institute for Public Affairs (DIPA) in Berlin, which, as a private scientific training institute, further developed the public affairs management function in companies and associations through publications, courses and university collaborations.

Since the Leipzig School of Media was founded in 2010, he has headed the institute in the role of director and managing director. Geffken lives in Leipzig.
