Marco Althaus

Marco Althaus (born January 19, 1971 in Göttingen ) is a German political scientist, journalist and expert on political public relations . He is Professor of Political Communication at the University of Public Administration and Finance in Ludwigsburg .

Life

Althaus studied political science at the Free University of Berlin and at Duke University (USA) as well as educational science at Capella University (USA). He graduated with a degree in political science with a research thesis on the Federal Chancellery, and his doctorate with Peter Lösche at the Georg-August University in Göttingen dealt with election campaign advice in the USA. He also completed a master's degree at the Graduate School of Political Management, George Washington University , Washington DC. He was also a Research Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States .

Initially he worked as a political journalist . In 1995 he did military service as an editor at Aktuell - newspaper for the Bundeswehr in the press and information staff at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn , then he completed an internship at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in Frankfurt am Main from 1996–1997 , before becoming editor of state politics in 1998 of the New Press in Hanover , then from 2001 to 2003 head of the press office of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics, Technology and Transport under Minister Susanne Knorre . In 2003 he became head of corporate communications at the Deutsche Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft mbH (dd_vg) in the Willy-Brandt-Haus .

In 2004 he was one of the founders of the German Institute for Public Affairs (DIPA) in Berlin with Sven Rawe and Michael Geffken . The DIPA company was properly dissolved in 2009. The DIPA published the book series Public Affairs and Political Management as well as the journal Public Affairs Manager at Lit Verlag under Althaus' editor .

Since 2008 he was full-time visiting professor for social sciences at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau (FH) and was appointed professor for social sciences there in 2011. From 2009 to 2015 he was deputy chairman of the board of directors of the affiliated institute for further education master’s courses, the Wildau Institute of Technology (WIT). In the context of the European Management course, he acted for the university from 2013 as editor of the peer-reviewed online student journal Journal of European Management & Public Affairs Studies (JEMPAS) . From 2016 to 2017 he was a substitute professor for economics with a focus on international economic policy in Wildau.

In 2018 he accepted the position of professor for political communication at the Faculty of Management and Law at the University of Public Administration and Finance in Ludwigsburg . There he teaches the public management course. Althaus was also a lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin , the Free University of Berlin , the University for Continuing Education Krems , the Touro College Berlin , the Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences (now the Westfälische Hochschule Gelsenkirchen Bocholt Recklinghausen ) and the Bremen University of Applied Sciences (international course in political management).

Memberships, advisory boards

He is a liaison professor at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, which is close to the SPD . He is a member of the Politics and Communication working group of the German Association for Political Science research . He is the editorial advisory board of the magazine Politik & Kommunikation and a member of the jury of the annual Politics Award as well as a member of the board of trustees of polisphere eV, association for the promotion of political communication and information (formerly: poli-c.de, Munich).
