Michael Gnade (* 1941 in Magdeburg ) is a German photographer and visual artist.

life and work

From 1960 to 1965 Michael Gnade studied first at the Werkkunstschulen in Düsseldorf and Cologne, then at the art academies in Stuttgart and Düsseldorf graphics , painting , portrait and life drawing as well as sculpture with Professors Heinz-Georg Lenzen , Ferdinand Macketanz , Manfred Sieler and Karl Bobek and Gerhard Gollwitzer . He studied with the painter and caricaturist Hans Pfannmüller as part of the adult education center. He completed his studies in photography as an autodidact .

Gnade has been working as a freelance photographer since 1967. His photo books, which were created up until 1982, have now become classics. In 1983 he withdrew from further publications in order not to repeat himself, he suffered from burn-out syndrome . Instead, he turned back primarily to the fine arts , published books and journals, took up teaching assignments in fine arts and photography, and held photography events and lectures. Since 2000 he has published the work of his foster mother Lotte Hörmann-Siller .

Grace lives near Cologne in Bensberg (Bergisch Gladbach).
