Michael Goldberg (painter)
Michael Goldberg (born December 24, 1924 in New York City , New York , † December 30, 2007 there ) was an American painter and graphic artist . He is one of the most important representatives of the second generation of American Abstract Expressionism .
Life
Michael Goldberg studied from 1938 to 1942 and, after an interruption due to the Second World War , from 1946 to 1951 at the Art Students League of New York , among others with Hans Hofmann and Jose de Creeft . In addition to these teachers, his artistic development was also influenced by Robert Matta and Arshile Gorky . The decisive influence on his art was to be given by Willem de Kooning and his expressive color scheme. Goldberg's art received international attention from the 1950s. In 1959 he participated in documenta 2 in Kassel .
He was married to the sculptor Lynn Umlauf .
