Michael Grimm (born October 21, 1821 in Unterbettringen near Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † April 6, 1877 in Kisslegg in Upper Swabia ) was a German elementary school teacher and author.

Grimm came from a farming family and from 1835, after attending elementary school in Oberbettringen , attended the preparatory institute in Gmünd. In 1840 he was able to take the first service examination at the Gmünder teachers' seminar. However, it was ruled out that he could later take on an organist's office, which meant that he was initially unable to apply for a proper position.

He found his first post in 1840 as a provisional (assistant teacher) at the Iggingen elementary school , before moving to the Gmünder Deaf-Mute and Blind Asylum for a year as a sub-teacher in 1842 . After unsuccessful applications for the post of sub-teacher in Schwäbisch Gmünd and Zurich , he remained the overseer of an orphanage in Weingarten until 1853 . During his time there, he successfully passed his second service examination in 1846 and was able to apply for a schoolmaster's position, but was only able to take up a permanent position as a schoolmaster in 1853. Grimm, who held teaching positions in Niederhofen (1853–1858), Haid near Saulgau (1858–1862) and from 1862 in Kißlegg, was forced to take on a wide variety of secondary jobs because of his far too low teaching salary. At times he switched to the writing of local stories , which have remained popular in local history circles to this day and have also been reprinted.

On October 17, 1853, he married the host and butcher's daughter Agathe Pflegehar . The couple had five children, two of whom died in childbirth.

Grimm suffered from chronic stomach, intestinal and liver diseases. His cures in Cannstatt and Friedrichshafen , carried out at his own expense, did not improve his health, but worsened the financial situation of his family. Finally, after his health deteriorated, Grimm died on April 6, 1877 of the consequences of his liver disease. He was buried in the cemetery in Kisslegg.
