Michael Florian Hammes (born October 16, 1974 in Koblenz ) is a German chess player .

Life

Michael Hammes is a tax advisor in Koblenz and the son of the soccer player Ewald Hammes .

In 1987 he won the German D youth championship. In 1999 he won the Gocher Open. In 2010 he finished second in Leiden at the Noteboom Memorial tournament.

He plays in Germany for the club SV 03/25 Koblenz . In the 1991/92 and 1992/93 seasons he was a substitute player, in the 1993/94 season he was a regular player in the German Chess League . In Belgium he plays for the club KSK 47 Eynatten , with which he won a total of five Belgian championships in 2003, 2010 , 2011 , 2014 and 2017 . In 2008, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2018 he took part in the European Club Cup for Eynatten . In Portugal he plays for the team CPND Albufeira in the first division, in Luxembourg for the team of De Sprénger Echternach , with whom he became champions in 2019 .

Michael Hammes received the title FIDE Master in 1997. He received the title International Master in 2009. He achieved his IM standards in 2001 at the German individual championship in Altenkirchen, in the 2007/08 season of the Oberliga Südwest and in the 2008/09 season the 2 Bundesliga West. His Elo rating is 2341 (as of February 2020). His highest rating to date was 2406 in October 2000.
