Michael Ibrahim

Michael Ibrahim (* 1979 in Vancouver ) is a Canadian saxophonist.

Michael Ibrahim studied at the University of Regina , the University of Calgary, the Université Européenne de Saxophone in Gap and the Bowling Green State University . He attended courses with Karlheinz Stockhausen and the Darmstadt summer courses . His teachers were Karen Finnsson , Jeremy Brown , John Sampen , Claude Delangle , Suzanne Stephens , Marcus Weiss and Paul Cohen . After teaching at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal College , he moved to New York for a PhD at the Manhattan School of Music .

He is a member of the New York Fireworks Ensemble and has worked a. a. with the PRISM Saxophone Quartet , the Columbia Sinfonietta , the TACTUS Contemporary Ensemble , the Long Island Concert Pops Orchestra , the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie . He appeared as a soloist in France, Russia, Italy, Germany, Austria and Holland and played a. a. Luciano Berios Chemins IVb , Louis Andriessens Hout, the North American premiere of Pierre Boulez ' Dialogue de l'ombre double and the world premiere of two pieces for saxophone solo by Adam Mirza and Katharina Rosenberger .

On his debut CD Bach: For Saxophone he played transcriptions of Bach works for saxophone solo and a concert with the Players Chamber Ensemble under Dan Bartholomew . In 2006 he received the Kranichstein Music Prize for contemporary music and in 2007 he won the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition at the Manhattan School of Music.
