Suzanne Stephens (born July 28, 1946 in Waterloo / Iowa ) is an American clarinetist .

Life

Stephens studied with Sidney Forrest in Washington , with Ulysse Delecluse in Paris , with Jerome Stowell in Chicago and with Hans Deinzer at the Hanover University of Music and Drama . In 1972 she won the Kranichstein Music Prize in Darmstadt and a silver medal at the international competition in Geneva .

Since 1974 she worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928–2007), who composed more than forty works for clarinet , bass clarinet and basset horn for her . As part of the Stockhausen Edition she played the u. a. Solo CDs Harlekin / The Little Harlequin and In Friendship / Dream Formula / Amour a. Her students include Tara Bouman , Michele Marelli , Michael Ibrahim , Petra Stump and Heinz-Peter Linshalm .
