Michele Marelli (* 1978 ) is an Italian clarinetist and basset horn soloist.

Life

Michele Marelli studied with Alan Hacker in England. At the age of 19 he graduated from the Conservatory “Antonio Vivaldi” in Alessandria under the direction of Professor Giacomo Soave . In addition to studying music, which also included composition and electronic music, he completed the classical Matura and a degree in literature and philosophy at the University of Turin.

At 18 he studied in Germany with Suzanne Stephens and got to know the German composer. An intensive artistic collaboration soon developed. Marelli also devoted himself to the basset horn. Marelli became assistant in the clarinet class of the Stockhausen courses in Kürten and became a member of the Stockhausen ensemble, with which he recorded three CDs (also as a soloist) and premiered many works under the direction of the composer.

Michele Marelli worked with leading contemporary composers and gave world premieres of works, most of which were dedicated to him, by Ivan Fedele , György Kurtàg, Marco Stroppa , Helmut Lachenmann , Salvatore Sciarrino , Franco Donatoni , Kaija Saariaho , Vinko Globokar , Fabio Nieder and among others Sylvano Bussotti . He interpreted works by Karlheinz Stockhausen , which also incorporate theatrical and dance techniques.

Peter Eötvös , Peter Rundel , Susanna Mälkki , Enno Poppe , Szymon Bywalec, Stefan Asbury, Tito Ceccherini, Brad Lubman, Pascal Rophé.

Marelli is Artistic Director of the Biennale Koper Festival of Contemporary Music (Slovenia).

He is professor of chamber music at the Conservatorio von Sassari (Italy).
