Michael John Woods

Michael John Woods (born August 16, 1934 , † April 2, 1993 in Oxford ) was a British philosopher and historian of philosophy .

Woods studied classics at the University of Oxford since 1953 with Maurice Platnauer (Classical Honor Moderations and Greats ) and then philosophy (B. Phil.) With Henry Price . He then held a Senior Scholarship at Merton College , then a position in research and teaching at Christ Church . From 1961 to 1993 he was an Official Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at Brasenose College . There was John Lloyd Ackrill his colleague.

On the philosophical side, Woods mainly worked on philosophical logic and metaphysics . A monograph on the conditionals remained unfinished and was published posthumously. On the philosophical-historical side, he published various small works on Plato's state and on the ethics and metaphysics of Aristotle . His main work in this regard, however, is the translation of Books I, II and VIII of Eudemian Ethics for the Clarendon Aristotle Series .
