Michael Keränen (born January 4, 1990 in Stockholm , Sweden ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Visp in the Swiss League since September 2019 .

Career

Keränen was at the beginning of his career between 2004 and 2007 for the junior teams of Tappara on the ice, before he moved to the 2007/08 season in the youth department of Tampereen Ilves . In the 2009/10 season he made his debut for the professional team in the SM-liiga and was used regularly in the top division in the following year , where he recorded a total of 11 scorer points from 42 games. In the following seasons he was able to increase his offensive performance annually and, following the 2013/14 season, was awarded the Lasse-Oksanen trophy as the best player in the main round and the golden helmet as the best player in the league overall with 17 hits and 35 assists . He also made his debut in the same year for the national team of his country and took part in the Euro Hockey Tour .

Keränen then received a contract with the Minnesota Wild from the National Hockey League and moved to North America in the summer of 2014. There he was used exclusively for the Iowa Wild farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL) in the 2014/15 season and subsequently received a one-year contract extension. In November 2015, the Finn made his debut for Minnesota in the top division of North America against the Pittsburgh Penguins , but was subsequently transferred back to the AHL.

In February 2016, Keränen was given to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Conor Allen . This put him up to the end of the season with the Binghamton Senators in the AHL, before he decided to return home in April 2016 and signed a contract with Jokerit from the Continental Hockey League . At the end of November 2016 they parted "by mutual agreement", Keränen had completed 25 KHL missions for Jokerit. On December 6, 2016, Tampereen Ilves from the Finnish Liiga announced his commitment. He had once made his professional debut at the club.
