Michael Layer (born October 23, 1978 in Heilbronn ) is a former German snowboarder in the disciplines of slalom, giant slalom, parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom and finally in boardercross .

Michael Layer started for TSV Dettingen . He contested his first FIS race in early 1997. The first international championships were the 1997 Junior World Championships in Corno alle Scale , where he was fifth in the giant slalom. In November 1999 , he contested his first race in the Snowboard World Cup in Tignes . In a giant slalom race, he finished 51st. Only a week later he won his first World Cup points as 16th in a snowboard cross competition in Kaprun . The following month he came in a snowboard cross race in Gstaad in fifth place for the first time in the top ten. In December 2000 Layer won a parallel slalom in Badgastein and thus his first European Cup. In January 2001 he came third on the Kreischberg in snowboard cross on the podium. Layer's first international men 's championship was the 2003 Snowboard World Championship on Kreischberg, where he was 18th in parallel slalom and 33rd in snowboard cross. In January 2004 he improved his best result in the World Cup in Arosa to second place in snowboard cross and was only beaten by Simone Malusa . He finished eighth in the overall ranking of the World Cup. In October of that year , he won a World Cup for the first time in Saas-Fee with a snowboard cross race. At the Snowboard World Championships 2005 in Whistler he missed a medal in fourth place by just one place. Highlight of the career were the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin . At the competitions in Bardonecchia , Layer 27. was eliminated and we were eliminated in the first round. The next major event was the 2007 Snowboard World Championship in Arosa, where he finished 30th in the snowboard cross competition.
