Michael Lombardi (football official)

Michael Lombardi (* 19th June 1959 in Ocean City , New Jersey ) is an American functionary and journalist in American football , in particular with regard to the NFL . He spent most of his career in various roles for the Cleveland Browns . From 2014 to 2016 he was assistant coach to the New England Patriots . He is listed as a two-time Super Bowl winner : XIX as part of the San Francisco 49ers team , XLIX as an employee of the New England Patriots.

Career

Lombardi began his career in the National Football League (NFL) in 1984 when the San Francisco 49ers signed him to their HR department. He stayed with the 49ers for three years before being hired by the Cleveland Browns as a scout in 1987 . In 1989 he was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel and in 1993 to Director of Player Personnel . He stayed there until 1995 when the Browns were temporarily dissolved. In 1997 the Philadelphia Eagles hired Lombardi as a Pro Personnel Consultant . Together with Bryan Broaddus Lombardi also took over the player selection in the 1998 NFL Draft . There they selected four future Pro Bowlers and swapped for another. Lombardi was released shortly after the draft, however, as Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie wanted to change the team culture. In 1999 the Oakland Raiders hired him for the human resources department. After Lombardi was fired from the Raiders in 2007, he didn't work for an NFL team before he was hired by the Browns as Vice President of Player Personnel in 2013 . In Cleveland, he was fired after the 2013 season . He then became an assistant coach with the New England Patriots , but ended his contract in June 2016 to become an analyst for FOX Sport .
