Michael Robert Marrone (born January 27, 1987 in Adelaide ) is an Australian football player .
Career
After visiting the Australian Institutes of Sport , Marrone first played in regional football for Kingston City FC in the Victorian Premier League and the Para Hills Knights in the South Australian Super League . In the summer of 2008 he was signed by the A League club Adelaide United for the newly created National Youth League . With the youth team, he was in the championship final of the premiere season (0-2 against Sydney FC ) and was honored internally as the best youth player. After Marrone made his first appearance for the professional team at the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup against Al-Ahly Cairo , he also made his league debut for Adelaide on the final day of the A-League season 2008/09 . In the subsequent championship finals, he came to another use before he signed a professional contract for the following season.
Marrone was in the 2009/10 season in the right-back position of Adelaide, but finished with his team at the end of the season in the last place in the table. At the end of December, Marrone had signed a two-year contract with league rivals North Queensland Fury , which was valid following the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2010 , but this was no longer valid after a change of ownership at North Queensland. Instead, Marrone moved to the newly founded A-League club Melbourne Heart .
Marrone was part of the Australian squad at the U-19 Asian Cup in 2006 , but was not used during the course of the tournament when they missed qualifying for the 2007 World Junior Cup due to a 2-1 defeat in the quarter-finals against South Korea . In February 2010, national coach Pim Verbeek Marrone called for the first time in the Australian senior team in preparation for the Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia . He finally made his debut on December 7, 2012 in a qualifier for the 2013 East Asian Cup against Guam , when he contributed to the 9-0 victory with a goal.
