Michael Marshall Smith

Michael Marshall Smith (born May 3, 1965 in Knutsford , Cheshire ) is an English novelist and screenwriter.

As a small child he moved with his parents first to Illinois, then to Florida, at the age of 7 to South Africa, later to Australia, and finally to return to England. He studied philosophy and politics at Cambridge University . Before he hit the bestseller lists in England with The Second Creator , he won the Phillip K. Dick and August Derleth Awards for his innovative first novel Only Forward . As early as 1991 he received the British Fantasy Award for his short story The Man Who Drew Cats , in addition the Icarus as best newcomer. The August Derleth Award for Stark, the dream detective , followed in 1995, and again in 2010 for his short story What Happens When You Wake Up In The Night . He lives in London with his wife. He received the British Fantasy Award four more times: 1992 for The Dark Land , 1995 for Only Forward , 1996 for More Tomorrow and What Happens When You Wake Up in the Night , each for best short story.
