Michael Maschka (* 1962 in Augsburg ) is a German painter , sculptor , graphic artist and designer . He is an artist of fantastic realism .

Life

Having grown up in Augsburg, Michael Maschka came into contact with the art of the Renaissance and Baroque at an early age . Although Maschka received hardly any artistic impulses from his middle-class family environment, he discovered his passion for drawing and painting at an early age. After completing basic artistic training at the Fachoberschule in Augsburg , Maschka went to Berlin in 1983. Rejected from the University of the Arts (UdK), he began to study social pedagogy. A job that he practiced until 1993. He also exhibited his work in Augsburg and Berlin. As a supporter of surrealism and fantastic art, in 1994 he met his great role model, the Austrian painter and co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism , Ernst Fuchs . Fuchs promoted Maschka. As his assistant, Maschka worked on several works, such as B. at the Fuchs Church in Thal near Graz . Since then he has been involved in exhibition projects in Europe and beyond. Until 2014 he was a member of the group "Dalis Erben" founded by Roger M. Erasmy in 2003, which celebrated successes in France and Germany with the Dali wagon. As co-founder of the Labyrinthe-Gesellschaft (founded in 2001) Michael Maschka has set himself the goal of maintaining Edgar Ende's oeuvre and making it accessible to the public through exhibitions. In this context, he wants to bring together young artists and supporters of fantastic art. Today he lives in Nördlingen, in the Donau-Ries.

Michael Maschka is a representative of fantastic realism . His formal approach in his pictures is realistic and characterized by the care of the old masters. He meticulously uses the techniques of the old masters to underline his picture messages. The viewer should be seduced by the riddles that his fantastic images pose and by the tangible sensuality. He uses the vocabulary of visible reality to trace the invisible structures of a spiritual reality that he perceives. In many of his pictures the motif nudity appears, which for him is not a projection surface for sexuality, but a symbol for naturalness and vulnerability. The female figure appears in his pictures in the form of the anima as the unconscious side of the man's soul. With the means of painting and etching he tries to bring out the naked, vulnerable self and to portray it graphically. His aim is to bring the inner image into harmony with the outer image.

With his art, Maschka wants to sharpen the perception of the viewer so that he can look behind the scenes of his own constructed world again. In his pictures, Maschka often refers to motifs from Germanic and Greek mythology , because for him they contain the language of archetypes that has been universal for thousands of years , a language that is largely unaffected by temporal and cultural influences and that people understand intuitively. These motifs, which repeatedly revolve around the topic of destruction and renewal within nature or humans, form an essential part of his visual language. They should uncover ideas that have long been believed to be forgotten and yet live on in our subconscious. The symbolism of his pictures aims to make the viewer think and to rediscover the world behind the visible reality, which is not directly accessible to sensual perception.
