Michael May (political scientist)

Michael May (born June 8, 1973 in Querfurt ) is a German political scientist.

Life

From 1993 to 2000 he studied social studies and history for teaching at grammar schools at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and at the University of Aberdeen (1997/1998) (1st state examination for teaching positions at grammar schools). From 2000 to 2002 he was a trainee lawyer at the state seminar in Halle an der Saale (school: Johann-Gottfried-Herder-Gymnasium (Halle) ; graduated with the 2nd state examination for teaching posts at grammar schools). From 2002 to 2012, he was a teacher at a private vocational school at the Geisel School Muecheln and (since 2007) at the New School High School (in this teacher ). From 2002 to 2005 he was a doctoral candidate at the Center for School and Educational Research (ZSB) Halle; Graduate scholarship holder of Saxony-Anhalt; 2006 Doctorate to Dr. phil. From 2005 to 2007 he worked on the extracurricular project “Cultural Learning Locations” of the State Institute for School Quality and Teacher Training Saxony-Anhalt (LISA) on the subject of “Tracking down history - The SS in Quedlinburg”. From 2006 to 2012 he held lectureships at the universities of Halle, Göttingen and Jena with interruptions . From 2009 to 2012 he was the specialist manager for trainee lawyers at the Braunschweig study seminar in the subject of politics and economics. Since 2012 he has been a university professor for didactics of politics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena .

His main research interests are normative foundations and concepts of political education, planning, implementation and evaluation of political learning processes, right-wing extremism and democracy education, reconstructive specialist teaching research and professionalization of social studies teachers.
