Michael McCollum
Michael Allen McCollum (* 1946 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American science fiction author and aeronautical engineer.
Life
Michael Allen McCollum was born in Phoenix , Arizona in 1946 . He attended Arizona State University, which he graduated with degrees in aerospace and nuclear engineering. McCollum is employed by Honeywell in Tempe , Ariz., As the lead engineer in valve manufacturing . He worked during his career, among others, the forerunner of the Space Shuttle - engine , on a replacement for the defective valve of the nuclear reactor at Three Mile Iceland , at various guided missiles, the International Space Station , as well as many different types of aircraft .
In addition to his work as an engineer, McCollum has been writing science fiction novels since 1974. He published a dozen short stories and several novels , some of which build on one another in cycles . His novels are characterized by an unusual closeness to reality: McCollum largely dispenses with concepts such as beaming or artificial gravity and instead sticks to physical principles, lets his spaceships use transfer orbits and also takes into account the delay in light-fast communication.
Michael McCollum is married with three grown children.
