Michael Mifsud (born April 17, 1981 in Pietà ) is a Maltese football player . He is the record goal scorer and captain of the Maltese national football team.

Career

Mifsud began his career with the Sliema Wanderers . In 2001 he was signed by 1. FC Kaiserslautern for their second team, but also came to the professional team. He played a total of 21 times in the 1st Bundesliga from 2001 to 2003 and scored two goals. He was the first Maltese in the top German league.

At the beginning of 2004 he moved back to Malta for six months to the Sliema Wanderers , where he won the championship and cup. From summer 2004 to January 2007 he played for Lillestrøm SK in Norway and then moved to the English second division club Coventry City . In the winter break of the 2008/09 season he was awarded to Barnsley FC .

From July 2009 he was initially without a contract before moving to Valletta FC in March 2010 . In 2013 he left Malta again and moved to the Australian professional club Melbourne Heart . He returned to Sliema Wanderers in June 2014 and moved to Valletta FC for the third time in January 2016 and was able to celebrate the double straight away in the same season.

National team

For the Maltese national team , he has played 124 games so far, scoring 40 goals. He scored 5 goals in a friendly international match against the Liechtenstein team on March 26, 2008 , including a flawless hat trick in 21 minutes. Malta won the game 7-1.
