Michael Pfanner

Michael Pfanner (* 1955 ) is a German classical archaeologist and restorer .

Live and act

Michael Pfanner completed an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor and restorer. Then studied classical archeology and in 1981 at the University of Munich with a thesis on the Arch of Titus doctorate . He also studied architecture up to a degree in engineering. In 1981/82 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute , with the help of which he was able to travel to the Mediterranean .

He runs his own company in Munich that deals with sculpture , stone masonry and restoration work. As a restorer, for example, he was responsible for the emergency measures before the restoration and the restoration planning for the market gate of Miletus . He teaches as an honorary professor at the Institute for Classical Archeology at the University of Leipzig . Pfanner is a member of the advisory board of the European Redevelopment Calendar yearbook . He also works on the Ex-Lateran catalog of the Vatican Museums . His guide to stone conservation, published with Rolf Snethlage . Planning of investigations and measures for the preservation of monuments made of natural stone is a standard work in his field and has so far seen four editions.
