Ramsauer's work is characterized by the constant exploration of the boundaries of painting, whereby various groups of works can be named. So-called “wild painting” dominated from the beginning, characterized by an impasto, moving and expressionistic style. But also reduced representations of sculptural black figures on canvas as well as experiments in old masters painting technique, which lead to painterly Capricci , can be found in the oeuvre of the artist. The topics are varied and testify to Ramsauer's deep knowledge of European art history and archeology. In addition to swimmers and divers, portraits and landscapes, Ramsauer repeatedly deals with mythological and religious subjects. A constantly recurring motif is the figure in the room, on the basis of which Ramsauer deals with the fundamental formal and compositional questions of painting.

Ramsauer also works as a sculptor, so he created various sculptures in bronze between 2000 and 2008.
