Jürgen Waller (born June 21, 1939 in Düsseldorf ) is a German painter . He lives in Vallauris and Bremen.

Life

In 1959 Jürgen Waller began studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , which he broke off after two semesters. 1960-68 he stayed in Vallauris , Varreddes and Paris . In 1963 Waller received the Premier Prix de la Jeune Peinture de la ville d ' Argenteuil . From 1968 to 1976 he lived and worked in Berlin . Jürgen Waller was a member of the German Association of Artists . Between 1972 and 1987 Waller took part in a total of ten annual DKB exhibitions. In 1972 he co-founded the Aspect group . In 1977 he was appointed professor at the University of Art and Music in Bremen . In 1989 he was elected rector of the Bremen University of the Arts. In 1994 and 1999 re-elections as rector followed.

From 1993 to 1998 he was chairman of the conference of presidents and rectors of the German art academies and during this period also represented the art and music academies in the senate of the university rectors' conference .

Jürgen Waller founded the Society for Contemporary Art in 1981 . His idea, together with the collector and gallery owner Reinhard Onnasch , led to the foundation of the Neues Museum Weserburg in Bremen in 1991. Jürgen Waller is a member of the advisory board of the Poll Art Foundation , Berlin.
