Michael Schmitt (born August 29, 1960 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Right- back Michael Schmitt came from VT Frankenthal to 1. FC Kaiserslautern , where he was active for the amateur team in the Oberliga Südwest. In the 1979/80 season one achieved success by moving into the 2nd round of the DFB Cup. After defeating SV Meppen with 3: 1 goals, they lost to Bonn SC with 2: 3 after extra time. Schmitt was only set up in the first game. When the team qualified again for the DFB-Pokal in 1981, Schmitt came to his next DFB-Pokal appearances. Again the second round was reached (4: 1 in round 1 against FC Homburg ), in which they had to admit defeat - this time with 1: 3 against SC Urania Hamburg . In 1982 Michael Schmitt went down with the amateurs of the FCK in the association league.

In 1982/83 he played for Südwest Ludwigshafen and from 1983 to 1985 for Hassia Bingen , both of whom played in the Oberliga Südwest. In 1985 he joined the league competitor 1. FSV Mainz 05 , with whom he won the Southwest Cup in 1986. In 1988 he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with the Mainz team , where he played 23 appearances before relegating again after one season. Then he was no longer active for the first team of the "zero five", although he was still in the squad for the 1989/90 season.

Schmitt has since been active in the traditional team of 1. FSV Mainz 05.

National team

From July 18 to 23, 1977 Schmitt took part with the B youth national team in a tournament in Norway (3rd Nordland tournament). The DFB team won the tournament after 3 wins against Iceland (4: 2), Norway (5: 0) and Sweden (6: 2). Schmitt was in the starting line-up in all 3 games and scored 1-0 against Iceland. Team members under coach Karl-Heinz Heddergott included Eike Immel , Roland Dickgießer , Theo Schneider , Ralf Augustin and Stephan Engels .
