Ralf Augustin (born September 27, 1960 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Ralf Augustin came from TuS Wandhofen to the youth team at Borussia Dortmund . There the highly talented striker became a youth national player. In 1978, at the age of 17, he received a professional contract with the Black and Yellows. On September 9, 1978, the 5th matchday of the 1978/79 season, he played his first Bundesliga game against VfB Stuttgart (4: 3) at the age of 17 in which he scored the 2-2 equalizer in the 22nd minute of the game. He made his second Bundesliga appearance on October 7, 1978 in his BVB game at SV Darmstadt 98 (2: 3), and scored his second Bundesliga goal in the 64th minute of the game. It was the only two Bundesliga games that he played through completely, in the other 10 games that he played within three years, he was mostly substituted on or off. He also did not succeed in another Bundesliga goal. From the 83rd minute of the 15th game day and the 76th minute of the 16th game day of the 1979/80 season, he was on the field together with Eike Immel and Theo Schneider in a Bundesliga game. As a 15-year-old, he played with both of them in the national school team. Due to several injuries, he never made the big breakthrough in professional football. After three years at Borussia, he moved to the second division Alemannia Aachen . After only one season he went to Fortuna Sittard and reached 8th place in the table with the promoted team in the Dutch Eredivisie . In the summer of 1983 Augustin returned to Germany and joined the first division club 1. FC Bocholt . During the 1983/84 season he had to end his career at the age of 23 due to a chronic injury to his right ankle.

National team

Augustin played four times in the student team of the DFB , the team played with Eike Immel , Theo Schneider players with whom he also played together during his professional time. In the traditional international match against England in Berlin on May 18, 1976, he scored twice in the 3-1 victory of the German student selection. In August 1976 he took part with the U-16 national team at the 2nd Nordland tournament in Iceland. After two defeats against Denmark (0: 2) and Sweden (1: 4), his team won against Iceland 4: 1 and scored two goals. In mid-July 1977 he won the 3rd Nordland tournament in Norway with the U16 after victories against Iceland (4: 2, 2 Augustin goals), Norway (5: 0, 3 goals) and Sweden (6: 2, 1 goal). On December 7, 1977, he made his debut as a younger generation in the A youth national team in the European Championship qualifier against Switzerland in Freiburg. At the side of Uwe Greiner , Bernd Schuster , Bernd Dierßen , Michael Geiger and Thomas Allofs , he played all nine games (3 goals) of the 1977/78 season with this age group, u. a. Tournament in Israel and UEFA junior tournament 1978 in Poland (games against Scotland (0-1), Italy (5-3), Portugal (0-1); 3rd group place). In the 1978/79 season he played (again in his age group) 11 times (6 goals) for the A-youth national team a. a. Tournament in Tashkent. For the 1979 UEFA tournament, he had to cancel due to injury.

After moving to the professional field, he was called up and used three more times for international matches for the U-21 national team: On November 20, 1979, he came on for Rudi Völler in the game against the Soviet Union in Tbilisi . On February 26, 1980 in Dortmund against Scotland (1-0) he played with Eike Immel and Theo Schneider at his side from the start. From June 9th to June 22nd, he took part in a tournament with the U-21s in the province of Canton . After victories against Canton (1-0), Mexico (1-0 with Ralf Augustin in the starting eleven), Romania (6-2) and a 2-2 draw against China (4-2 on penalties), the German U- 21 tournament winners.
