Michael Spiteller

Michael Spiteller (born April 24, 1954 in Herrsching am Ammersee ) is an Austrian environmental chemist.

Life

Spiteller studied chemistry from 1972 to 1976 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1979 he also received his doctorate there . From 1979 to 1982 he worked as a scientific assistant at the Chair of Soil Science at the University of Bayreuth . With a Habilitationsstipendium the German Research Foundation , he was at the Forestry Faculty of the University of Göttingen in May 1985 habilitation . In October of the same year he went to Bayer AG's plant protection center in Monheim as a group leader . In 1990 he became associate professor for soil science at the University of Göttingen. In 1993 he accepted an appointment as full professor at the University of Kassel , where he held the chair for ecological chemistry until 1999. On November 1, 1999, he went to the Technical University of Dortmund , where he has since headed the Institute for Environmental Research (INFU) of the Chemistry Faculty.

Michael Spiteller is the son of the natural product chemist Gerhard Spiteller . His brothers are the chemists Peter Spiteller (* 1971, W3 Professor for Organic Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis at the University of Bremen ) and Dieter Spiteller (* 1974, W3 Professor for Chemical Ecology and Chemical Biology at the University of Konstanz)

Work areas

The focus of Spiteller's research projects is the metabolism and the fate of natural and anthropogenic substances in soil, water and plants.

Spiteller is the author or co-author of over 300 publications. He has been an honorary doctor of the University of Novi Sad since 2005 .
