Michael Stuart (born January 9, 1975 in New York City ) is an American salsa singer of Puerto Rican descent.

Career

In the 1960s, Michael Stuart's family immigrated from Puerto Rico to New York City. His first musical influences came from his uncle Israel "Timbalero" Stuart. Michael often accompanied his uncle's band with maracas and congas . He also learned to play the trumpet and sang pieces by Héctor Lavoe and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico . His singing style was strongly influenced by Domingo Quiñones . Michael Stuart was a backing vocalist for Johnny Rivera and Marc Anthony for a while . In 1996, Stuart recorded his first album "Cuento de la Vecinidad", which included a remake of Michael Jackson's "The Lady in My Life". In the US Hispanic community , the album became a success and was named "New Artist of the Year 1996-97 Award" by Farandula Magazine and The Tropical New Artist 1997 Award from the Tu Musica Awards and by the Lo Nuestro Awards as "New Artist of the Year "awarded. In 1997, he sang a tribute to Bobby Capo in a Banco Popular production with Danny Rivera, José Feliciano and Chucho Avellanet. In 1998 his second album Retratos was released, with which he won the "New Salsa Artist Award" and the Paoli Award. Michael Stuart also appeared in the Puerto Rican version of the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" in San Juan with Olga Tañon. In the same year Michael Stuart appeared together with Ricky Martin and Gilberto Santa Rosa in a tribute to the composer Rafael Hernández. In 2000 the third album "Subeme el Volume" was released. Its title "Algo En Ella" was used as the soundtrack in the film Under Suspicion. In 2004 the album "Sin Miedo" was nominated as the Latin Grammy for Best Tropical-Contemporary Album of the Year 2005. In 2005 Michael Stuart toured the USA, Latin America and Europe with the musical Homenajes in honor of the great salsa and rum legends . Stuart also recorded contemporary reggaeton tracks on his 2006 album "Back to da Barrio" . His last album to date, Sentimiento de un Rumbero, was released in 2007 on the Machete Records label. Michael Stuart is still involved in the music business and stage productions. In 2008 he took part in the beach festival "Back to School".
