Michael T. Otto (born March 12, 1969 in Ravensburg ) is a German trumpeter and composer .

biography

Otto began playing the trumpet with the local brass band at the age of nine. After a short time as a military musician , he studied trumpet at the Cologne University of Music with Malte Burba . He also learned his jazz and composition craft in Cologne and with the New York jazz pianist Peter Madsen . Otto was the founder and principal cornettist of the " Brass Band Oberschwaben-Allgäu" (1992–2001), has been the director and founder of the Big Band LA at the Langenargen Music School since 1999 , where he also works as a teacher.

In 2003 his solo debut album "Spin Trumpet" was released on the "Thorofon" label, a year later he founded the "mto-jazz-quartett" with Olivier Hutman (Paris), Andy McKee (New York) and Bernd Reiter (Graz) playing modern jazz .

Otto is the founder of the formation "exchange Jazz" which in unusual instrumentation (singing kuhlohorn traditional -Trombone accordion-guitar-bass) German songs encased in a jazz garment. In 2005 he wrote the German-French children's musical “Pigeon Vole or A Flea on a Secret Mission” together with the Parisian children's songwriter Didier Delepeleer, which was awarded the second prize in 2006 by the Robert Bosch Foundation .

Since 2006 Otto has been developing trumpets and flugelhorns with the trumpet maker Friedrich Lüttke . He has been a member and composer of the Bodan Art Orchestra since 2011 .

From 2012 to 2015 Otto taught brass didactics / methodology at the Nuremberg University of Music .
