Michael Tyzack

Michael Tyzack (born August 3, 1933 in Sheffield , Yorkshire , Great Britain , † February 11, 2007 in Johns Island, South Carolina , USA ) was a British painter and printmaker . He is considered an important representative of modern abstract painting. He was also a jazz - trumpeter known.

life and work

Michael Tyzack studied from 1952 to 1956 at the Slade School of Fine Art , University College in London . His main teachers included William Townsend , Victor Pasmore , Lucian Freud and Sir William Coldstream . His fellow students included Patrick Heron and William Scott .

In 1956 he received a scholarship to stay in Paris . After his return in 1957 he was active as a jazz musician in addition to painting.

His work is characterized by its colorful geometric abstraction . In 1968 he took part in the 4th documenta in Kassel with six geometric-abstract pictures .

Since 1955 his work has been shown in over 50 group exhibitions in Great Britain and in France , Switzerland , the Netherlands , Italy , Brazil , Australia and Canada . Michael Tyzack was a teacher in Great Britain and North America and was a professor at the Charleston College from 1976 to 2007.
