Michael John Hatley Walsh (born June 10, 1927 in Harrogate , Yorkshire - † October 13, 2015 ) was a British major general and between 1982 and 1988 Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories of the Boy Scout Association in the United Kingdom.

Life

Michael Walsh has attended two independent schools: the Clifton House School in Harrogate , Yorkshire and the Sedbergh School in Cumbria . He was a member of the local Scout Troop.

Walsh joined the King's Royal Rifle Corps in 1944 . In the winter of 1946-47 he was in Italy used to Trieste against Tito's partisans to defend. In November 1956, during the Suez Crisis, he was tasked with capturing El Gamil Airfield near Port Said as part of Operation Musketeer .

He was Honorary President of the Society of Knights of the Round Table from 1988 to 1995 .
