Michael Walter (musicologist)

Michael Walter (born March 29, 1958 in Gießen ) is a German musicologist and university professor .

biography

After studying musicology and history at the Universities of Marburg and Gießen , Michael Walter was a research assistant at the Musicological Institute of the University of Marburg from 1980 to 1984. In 1985 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. This was followed by teaching activities at the University of Siegen and the University of Stuttgart , where he completed his habilitation.

From 1993 to 1999 Walter was a professor for systematic musicology at the Musicological Institute of the Ruhr University Bochum . From 2000 to 2001 he was deputy head of the musicology department at the University of Bayreuth .

Since 2001 he has held a professorship at the Institute for Musicology at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz , has been the director of the institute there and Research and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
