Michael Wannenmacher

Michael Wannenmacher (born August 12, 1938 in Berlin ; † September 20, 2015 ) was a German physician and radiation therapist.

Life

Wannenmacher studied and did his doctorate in medicine and dentistry. He completed a specialist training in oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as a radiological training with a focus on radiation therapy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster . In 1973 he completed his habilitation with a paper on bone growth and repair under radiation therapy.

In 1977 he became a full university professor at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1987 he moved to the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . From 1990 to 1993 he was medical director of the Heidelberg University College and from 1999 to 2001 Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University. Until 2003 Wannenmacher was director of the clinical radiology department and from 1996 to 2003 he was chairman of the tumor center . In 2003 Wannenmacher retired .

The main areas of teaching and research were cell kinetics and cell synchronization, tumor registries, radiation sequelae, therapy of systemic diseases and interstitial radionuclide therapy. He played a key role in the introduction of large-field radiation for malignant lymphomas .

Wannenmacher was a corresponding member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences .
