Michael Wickmann (born February 2, 1952 ) is a German local politician of the SPD . He was from 2002 to 2015 full-time district administrator of the district Northeim .

Career

education and profession

Wickmann initially completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk and later as a qualified administrator . He then worked in the Göttingen district . In 1991 he moved to the Eichsfeld district as head of the Office for Public Safety and Order and deputy head of department . He also worked as a lecturer at the Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences , the Eichsfeld European Academy and the Thuringian Administration School in Weimar.

Local politics

Wickmann was a member of the local council in Hevensen from 1991 to 1996 , before he was elected to the Northeim district council in 1996. From 1996 to 2001 he was also a councilor and second deputy mayor of the city of Hardegsen . In 1998 Wickmann, who has been a member of the SPD since 1972, took over the chairmanship of the district assembly. In November 2001 he was elected honorary district councilor and successor to Axel Endlein by the district council.

In the first direct election of a full-time district administrator on April 21, 2002, he was able to unite 51.7% of the vote. With the election, in accordance with the reform of the Lower Saxony municipal constitutional law of 1996, the two previous functions of honorary district administrator and senior district director were replaced by those of the full-time district administrator. Wickmann officially took office on May 1, 2002. The term of office, originally scheduled for October 31, 2011, was extended by two years by a district council resolution in January 2011. The background to this was the ongoing merger negotiations between Wickmann and the neighboring districts of Göttingen and Osterode am Harz about the formation of a new great district in southern Lower Saxony. In February 2013, Wickmann finally declared the merger talks to have failed and passed a corresponding vote to the district council to break off the negotiations. This followed Wickmann's recommendation at a district council meeting with a majority decision, so that the merger negotiations were officially declared over in April.

Wickmann won the following district election on October 6, 2013 with 51.9% in the runoff against Bernd von Garmissen (CDU) with a turnout of 39%. With effect from September 1, 2015, he was retired at his own request for health reasons.
