biography
At the age of 13 he started as a young worker in a large foundry in Hildesheim , which was followed by an apprenticeship as a model maker. Endlein became a member of the works council in this company.
Endlein came into contact with union work early on, as his mother was employed as a clerk at IG Metall in the Hildesheim administration office. In this way, Endlein made early acquaintance with the later first chairman Otto Brenner or the later district manager Rudi Grevenstein .
In addition to his vocational training, Endlein was involved in IG Metall and was a member of the local and district youth committee. In addition, he represented the DGB in the Hildesheim City Youth Association.
1966 changed Endlein as full-time youth secretary for DGB . With the Springen resolutions in 1967, the DGB reduced its full-time staff in the youth sector. Endlein was then transferred to the local DGB district in Goslar and finally became DGB district chairman in Northeim in 1968 . His successor in Goslar was the later IG Metall district manager of Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony, Hasso Düvel . A short time later, Endlein was also a member of the DGB regional board. Endlein was also involved in local politics in Northeim and, after the district reform, became a (honorary) district administrator for the Northeim district at the age of 32 . He held this office with a break from 1981 to 1986 until he left the district council in 2001. From 1992 he was a member of the Presidium of the German District Assembly, from 1993 Vice President and from 1996 to 2002 the first Social Democratic President of the German District Assembly . Until his resignation on July 1, 2004, he was still active in the Committee of the Regions (CoR) as a representative of German municipalities.
In 1976, Endlein left the DGB and, at the suggestion of Peter von Oertzens, became managing director of the SPD district of Hanover . He held this office until shortly after his election to the state parliament in 1990. Endlein belonged to the state parliament for three legislative periods and did not run again in 2003.
In the state parliament, Endlein was an opponent of the local government reform that was passed in the mid-1990s. He finally bowed to the parliamentary group, but made changes to the draft beforehand.
