Michael Zylka (born June 18, 1950 ) is a German football official . In November 1988 he was Günter Sieberts' successor for three days as President of FC Schalke 04 .

Life

Zylka grew up in Gevelsberg , where he went to elementary school and played football at VfL Gevelsberg as a teenager . He attended high school in Herdecke and studied at Darmstadt University . He is a business economist with a focus on human resources and training, but is now a "privateer". He was a partner in the Prokom publishing house and co-founder of the sports magazine RevierSport .

The time of his election as President of FC Schalke 04 on 21 November 1988 - Zylka belonged to the club since 1973 - he was so reported Der Spiegel a few weeks later, as "an officer of the military professional service with the rank of lieutenant" for the Federal Ministry of Defense operates . "Since he is employed in the 'security-relevant area', according to Ministry spokesman Werner Widder, his job and the honorary job in Schalke are 'not compatible with each other'. And if the first lieutenant had reported his spontaneous candidacy in Bonn beforehand, 'it would not have been approved', ”wrote Der Spiegel. Zylka himself said he had worked as an interpreter for Slavic languages. It was even planned to make him head of the Essen sports company, "so that I could have taken care of Schalke intensively". According to his information later in the fan magazine Schalke Unser , he was not pressured to resign. He did this - three days after his election - because he encountered "pure rejection", "financial chaos" and "nasty bullying" in the club. The official reason at the time was that he could not get the former player Rolf Rüssmann through as manager. At the beginning of 1989, Zylka was followed by Günter Eichberg as club president.

In June 2017, Michael Zylka was elected chairman of the election committee for the selection of supervisory board candidates at the association's annual general meeting, to which he had previously belonged.
