Michaelskirche (Luxembourg)
The St. Michael's Church is the oldest surviving sacred building in Luxembourg (city) .
In 987, the castle chapel of the Luxembourg counts stood on the site of today's Michael’s Church. Over the centuries the church has been destroyed several times, but has been rebuilt, changed and expanded again and again.

The church was given its current appearance in 1688. Due to its eventful history , the building, which was restored in the 1960s and 1980s, now combines elements of Romanesque , Gothic and Baroque architecture.

The organ goes back to an instrument that was built in 1662 for the Franciscan Church on the Knuedler , and that came to the Michaelskirche in the course of the abolition of the monastery in 1805. This instrument was rebuilt in the late 19th and 20th centuries. In 1959 the instrument was declared a monument historique . In 1969 the (still existing) historical pipe material was removed as unusable and a new organ was installed in the organ case by the organ building company Manufacture d'orgues luxembourgeoise (Lintgen) . The slider chests -instrument has 26 registers on three manual works and pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
