Mikhail Nikolajewitsch Koschljakow ( Russian Михаил Николаевич Кошляков ; born November 29, 1930 ) is a Russian oceanographer and university professor .

Life

Koschljakow, son of the mathematician Nikolai Sergejewitsch Koschljakow , graduated from the Faculty of Geography at Leningrad University in 1953 with honors.

Then Kozhlyakov worked at the Moscow Institute of Oceanology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)). There he first completed the traineeship with Wladimir Borissowitsch Stockmann with a final defense of his candidate dissertation . In the mid-1960s he provided a precise hydrodynamic justification for the well-known reservoir method of oceanology . In 1976 he received his doctorate in physical-mathematical sciences . The ocean eddies became a focus of his scientific work . One application was the ocean eddies in the POLYMODE area near the Bermuda Islands . 1975–1981 he was a member of the Soviet - US American POLYMODE Organizing Committee. He was also involved in the Megapolygon-87 project in the northwestern Pacific .

On 1966 founded the Chair for thermal hydro mechanics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology held Koshlyakov from the beginning his lecture on Physical Oceanography .

Since 1989 Koschljakow headed the laboratory for ocean currents . In 1990 he was appointed professor . He became a member of the WOCE Group for the Southern Ocean in 1990 and headed it from 1993–1996. He was chairman of the Russian committee of the WOCE from 1993 to 1997. He was the first recipient of the Makarow Prize for Oceanology, founded by RAN in 1996 . In 1999 he was honored as an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation . In 2006 he gave up the laboratory management and remained the main employee of the laboratory.
