Mikhail Bestuzhev-Ryumin ( Russian Михаил Павлович Бестужев-Рюмин ., Scientific transliteration Michail Pavlovič Bestužev-Ryumin , born May 23 . Jul / 4. June  1801 greg. In Kudrjoschki , government Nizhny Novgorod , † 13 jul. / 25th July  1826 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian revolutionary and leader of the Decembrist uprising , after which he was executed.

Life

Mikhail Bestuschew-Ryumin came from a Russian aristocratic family and was trained as a private tutor; his father was court advisor and mayor of the city of Gorbatow in the governorate of Nizhny Novgorod . In 1816 the family moved to Moscow. In 1818 he joined the cavalry regiment as a Junker and began his officer training. In the following years up to 1823 he served in the Semenow'schen Guard Regiment and in the Poltava Infantry Regiment and was promoted to secondary lieutenant.

From 1823 he was one of the leaders of the Southern Decembrist Association and took part in secret congresses in Kamyanka and Kiev . Together with Sergei Muravyov-Apostol he organized the uprising of the Chernigov regiment in Trylissy near Bila Tserkva in Ukraine .

On December 27, 1826, he was arrested in Trylisy and on January 3, transferred to St Petersburg in shackles, and imprisoned there in the Peter and Paul Fortress . From February to April he was shackled in iron. On 11 jul. / July 23, 1826 greg. He was sentenced to death by hanging , and two days later he was executed in the fortress, along with four other leaders of the uprising .
