Michal Malák (born August 25, 1980 in Poprad ) is a former Slovak cross-country skier .

Career

Malák took part in competitions of the Fédération Internationale de Ski from 1998 to 2010 . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti , he finished 64th over 15 km classic, 56th over 30 km classic and 54th place in the sprint. He ran his first of a total of 35 individual World Cup races in December 2003 in Toblach , which he finished in 75th place in the 30 km mass start race. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 he came in 60th place over 15 km freestyle, 47th place in the sprint and 17th place together with Stanislav Holencik in the team sprint. In the following year he reached the 73rd place over 15 km classic, the 53rd place in the skiathlon and the 45th place in the 50 km mass start race in his first Olympic participation in Turin . He finished the Tour de Ski 2006/07 on the 56th and the Tour de Ski 2007/08 on the 54th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo in 2007 , he achieved 41st place over 15 km freestyle and 15th place together with Martin Otčenáš in the team sprint. From 2006 to 2009 he started in the cross-country skiing Slavic Cup . He won four races and finished fourth in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 season. In February 2008 he achieved his best individual result in the World Cup with the 41st place in the 11.4 km freestyle at the World Cup in Liberec . Also in 2008 he won the 48 km freestyle at Biela Stopa . The following year he came in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec on the 52nd place in the sprint and on the 45th place in the 50 km mass start race. He ended his career after the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , where he finished 54th over 15 km freestyle, 14th place with Ivan Bátory and 12th place with the relay.
