Ivan Bátory (born May 3, 1975 in Liptovský Mikuláš , then Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak cross-country skier .

Career

Bátory started for the first time in December 1993 in Santa Caterina in the 30 km classic race in the World Cup , which he finished in 89th place. At the Junior World Championships in 1995 in Gällivare , Sweden , over ten kilometers in classic style won the silver medal. He achieved his first World Cup points in November 1995 over 15 km classic in Vuokatti with 13th place. In the spint of Reit im Winkl in February 1996, Bátory achieved a top ten result in the World Cup for the first time with 9th place; in a distance race he achieved this for the first time over 30 km classic in December 1998 in Davos with 6th place. His first of three podium finishes in the World Cup came Bátory in November 1999 in Kiruna with 3rd place over 10 km classic. He achieved his other top 3 results each over 15 km classic and with 3rd place in Davos 2001 and Beitostølen 2005. His best placement in the overall World Cup he achieved in the 1998/99 season with 15th place.

His best results at world championships , in which Bátory consistently participated from 1995 to 2011, were sixth place over 15 km classic in Val di Fiemme 2003 and tenth place in the 50 km race in classic technology in Trondheim 1997 .

Bajčičák also competed for Slovakia at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , Nagano , Salt Lake City , Turin and Vancouver . He achieved his best placements with twelfth place in the Slovak relay and 14th place in the team sprint with Michal Malák in Vancouver. Bátory achieved his best individual placement at the Olympic Games with 19th place over 50 km classic in Nagano.

Following the 2011 World Championships , Bátory ended his career.
