Michal Novák (born October 26, 1996 in Karlsbad ) is a Czech cross-country skier .

Career

Novák, who starts for the Dukla Liberec, made his first international appearance in February 2013 at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2013 . There he finished 41st place in the sprint, 32nd place over 7.5 km classic and tenth place over 10 km freestyle. In March 2013, he ran in Kremnica for the first time in the Slavic Cup and achieved 24th place in the 15 km mass start race and 23rd place in the sprint. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2014 in Fiemme Valley , he came 69th in the skiathlon . In the following year he came in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2015 in Almaty on the 43rd place over 10 km freestyle and on the 16th place in the skiathlon. In the 2015/16 season he made his debut in Nové Město in the cross-country skiing world cup , reaching 54th place in the 15 km freestyle. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 in Râşnov , he finished 33rd in the sprint, 12th place over 15 km freestyle and eighth place over 10 km classic. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season he finished the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer in 67th place. His best placings at the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti were 36th place in the 50 km mass start race, 12th place together with Aleš Razým in the team sprint and 11th place with the relay. In March 2017, he took his first victory in the Slavic Cup in the sprint in Harrachov . At the beginning of the 2017/18 season he achieved 56th place in the Ruka Triple and scored his first World Cup points in the 2017/18 Tour de Ski , which he finished in 39th place, with 29th place in the sprint in Lenzerheide . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he ran to 60th place in the sprint, 46th place over 15 km freestyle and tenth place with the relay. At the World Cup final in Falun he came in 51st place.

The following year, Novák won the silver medal over 15 km freestyle at the U23 World Championships in Lahti . His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol were 36th place in the 50 km mass start race and 11th place with the relay.
