Michel Demuth

Michel Demuth (born July 17, 1939 in Lyon ; died September 29, 2006 in Paris ) was a French science fiction author, editor and translator.

Life

In 1958 Demuth published a first SF short story (Marginal II) . This was followed by a cycle of space opera stories, which were collected in two volumes as Les Galaxiales in 1976 and 1979 . Outside of this series, he has published over 50 short stories. Of his work, only the short story Céphéide has been translated into German. A number of his stories also appeared under the pseudonym Jean-Michel Ferrer .

Demuth translated English science fiction into French, especially several volumes of the Dune cycle by Frank Herbert and three volumes of the Dune sequels by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson , as well as Arthur C. Clarkes 2001 - A Space Odyssey .

He also wrote the script for two comic albums by the cartoonist Philippe Druillet .

From 1970 to 1977 he was editor of the science fiction magazine Galaxie , which was published by Éditions OPTA . From 1970 to 1972 he was also in charge of the Alfred Hitchcock magazine published by the same publisher, and from 1973 to 1977 he published a series of 15 SF anthologies under the title Marginal .

In 1977 he was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire for Les Galaxiales . In 2007 he was posthumously awarded the Prix ​​du Lundi .
